IRA News Project Effective Literacy Website # 2

 

            Reading Rockets (https://www.readingrockets.rog) is a national multimedia project that offers a wealth of research-based reading strategies, lessons, and activities designed to help young children learn how to read and read better (Reading Rockets 2020). Their reading resources assist parents, teachers, and other educators in helping struggling readers build fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills. In 2016 this website received the top honor in the Library of Congress Literacy Awards program.  The awards recognize groups doing exemplary, innovative and replicable work, and they spotlight the need of the global community to unite in striving for universal literacy (Reading Rockets 2016).

            This websites provides certain indicators at the top of the homepage which include teaching reading, helping struggling readers, reading topics A-Z and children’s books and authors. Under each indicator, there were information, activities, procedures, and resources provided for teachers, parents, and other educators to utilize in teaching readers or struggling readers. In the middle of the home page, there were several handful ideas and resources about Reading Rockets. At the bottom of the website, there were some useful indicators that can also be used in finding the best apps for literacy, pinpoint the problem the struggling reader having and discover ways to help, what parents, teachers, care providers need to know, watch and listen to their classroom videos and author’s interviews and real questions from parents and educators answered by experts.

            This website provides every required resources, activities, procedures, videos, and significant apps for a teacher, parent and educator to utilize to help struggling readers to build fluency, vocabulary and comprehension skills.
